"Children in Reception class are able to write stories from a much richer word bank than we would expect.”

“Tahid (4) did not communicate very much to begin with. After a few weeks of regular story telling using signs he was almost shouting out the key words as well as doing the signs. He likes to stand up in front of the group now to tell parts of the story.”
(M. McLaughlyn, Dallow Nursery)
I particularly noticed the children who have English as a second language and did not communicate very much when Katja first began
to visit. They are now standing in front of a large group of children to use signs and recall parts of the story or sing a song.
It was so worth doing that I am planning to use Sign Language as much as possible every day.”

"The impact of this project has been tremendous. It has provided many children with a framework for story telling that has impacted both oral and written story telling. Vocabulary has been enriched significant. This has given reluctant speakers and writers a secure frame work to work from. This Oral Story telling project has enabled children to become practised at rehearsing sentences before writing. " (Reception teacher, Beechwood Primary) |
